You will want to take your time and find something that looks beautiful and that you know your bride will appreciate, but which is not ludicrously out of your budget range. And do not assume that simply tossing cash at a wedding ring will make it any more beautiful. You do not always get what you pay for.

You may be able to purchase the stone or stones from a wholesale resource, for ¼ of what a jewelry store would charge for the same stone, and have them inset into either an original or pre-fabricated setting. Another issue to be aware of in choosing your wedding rings, is that merchants charge a huge amount for what is actually hollow gold jewelry. You are paying for the 'label' or the 'design'.

You will also want to make sure that the ring you purchase is gold or platinum. Interestingly, however, for a wedding ring, a lower karat gold may be a better choice, as it will be less prone to bending and stratching over the years. Additionally, you will also want to be sure that you do not buy a shoddy ring (i.e. one that may not hang on to the gemstones very well). It is a wise idea to buy anything ready-made with the agreement that you may return them within a specified time, so that you can HAVE THEM APPRAISED, by an independent source, before you decide to keep them.
